“Push yourself to the edge of your limits, that’s how they expand”.

Coastal has helped me to realize that I could do things that I never thought I could. There were a few notably challenging assignments where I was placed in highly stressful environments, such as my experiences in Mexico, and self-doubt got to me. Yet over and over again, whenever I thought that I had reached my limits and could no longer do more, I do.

Coastal has helped to support, frame and pushed me beyond my self-imposed boundaries. Each experience became an even stronger affirmation that I should never be afraid of stepping out of my comfort zone – I can now boldly “sail forth, grow beyond”.

Earlier in my career, I recognized that the power of persuasion and people management are instrumental crafts of the trade as it has a direct influence on motivation levels and the ability to optimize productivity of stakeholders. However, I never delved deeper.

At Coastal, through the leadership of our seniors, I learnt that people management in the absence of humility is shortsighted and often unstainable. Humility was a trait that I have often overlooked and never used to associate with effective leadership. For individuals like me – young, steadfast, go-getter – humility is not a typical trait that I am inclined to exhibit. Today, my perspectives shifted. I now understand that humility is a key component and mark of being a truly effective leader.

In my five years at Coastal, I can say that no one day has been like another. My journey thus far has been evolving, full of learning and growing. Coastal is a fast-growing company and therefore there are a lot of opportunities for personal development and advancement. Within the organization, there will be new roles, new responsibilities or areas that has not been fully established. You will also have the ease of access to a network of vibrant, knowledgeable and friendly people. Be versatile and dynamic, but also be able to make a fair assessment of yourself and consider how it can be mutually beneficial for both you and the company. All in all, the opportunities for development are undeniably present and this is especially so for individuals who steps forward and present themselves as a candidate.
